Doctor Who Monthly, formerly Doctor Who - A Marvel Monthly, began with issue 61 in February 1982 published by Marvel Comics Ltd. Alan McKenzie continued as editor of the magazine under this name. It continued under this name through to issue 84. In February 1984, with issue 85 it underwent another name change, becoming The Official Doctor Who Magazine.
Throughout 1982 the price for the magazine remained at 45 pence in the United Kingdom. In 1983 the price of the magazine rose twice; in February 1983 beginning with issue 73 the price rose to 50 pence in the UK; in May it rose to 60 pence in the UK. It remained at this price until midway through 1984.
Beginning with the first issue under this title, John Nathan-Turner was acknowledged as an advisor to the magazine.
