Adrienne Hill (born 22 July 1937 in Plymouth, England, died 6 October 1997[1]) played ill-fated companion Katarina from Episode 4 of The Myth Makers through Episode 4 of The Daleks' Master Plan. Katarina was the first and one of the few companions ever to be killed on Doctor Who. Her tenure on the show was among the briefest.

Adrienne distanced herself from long-term association with Doctor Who, but appeared in the 1985 Children in Need special with other actors who had played the Doctor and his companions.[2]

Death[[edit] | [edit source]]

She died from cancer on 6 October 1997, with her last known acting role, a library assistant in an episode of City Life, broadcast posthumously in February 1998.

Legacy[[edit] | [edit source]]

A photo of Adrienne as Katarina was seen in UNIT's Black Archive in the 50th Anniversary Special The Day of the Doctor (hinting that her association with the First Doctor lasted longer than her two TV stories), whilst Ajjaz Awad recreated the role of Katarina in the Big Finish audio stories Companion Piece and Daughter of the Gods.
