Summary[[edit] | [edit source]]

On the planet Medattia rival tribes are worried about people going missing — believed to have been eaten by the Gibwyn.

Plot[[edit] | [edit source]]

The Doctor and Clara arrive on the planet Medattia in 1875 where in the planets jungle they find two rival tribes (the Gibbles and the Wynals) have joined forces to hunt down the Gibwyn — a creature that has recently appeared, and one that the Doctor is determined to find first and save. They find the Gibwyn but it is scared off by the Voodoo priest, Cronker carrying a flaming skull who warns that the Gibwyn is a curse on both tribes, angered by the mixing of the two tribes. An elder of the Wynals tells the Doctor not to mock Cronker and how, just before the Gibwyn first appeared, his son had fallen in love with a Wynal — and that both had soon disappeared without trace. The Doctor remains unconvinced by Cronkers Voodoo powers and using his sonic screwdriver summons the Gibwyn back and detects two heart beats. Knocking Cronker's flaming skull from his hands it is revealed to be a genetic bonding device disguised as spooky magic. With the device destroyed the Gibwyn appears to separate into two halves — two separate people — the young lovers that had gone missing. Exposed for his deception Cronker's efforts to keep the two tribes tribes separate is finally ignored as both tribes inviting the Doctor and Clara to the wedding. Clara remarks that had she known she would have worn a hat but dismisses the Doctors notion to have worn a fez!
