A few days ago, a video was released on YouTube called "Stop Using Fandom" and has since gained over a million views. It can be watched here: [Link Redacted]. Personally, I think the video raises some interesting questions and has me wondering whether Fandom is truly the best place for this wiki. The video does include a list of other wikis that have left Fandom. But is our wiki simply too large to be recreated elsewhere? I really would like to hear other people's perspectives on this. Discussion

This makes sense, but would probably need a bigger thread. Aquanafrahudy 📢 🖊️ 16:33, 5 November 2023 (UTC)

Link redacted as per Tardis:Video policy, I'm afraid. And I'm not sure this thread is a good idea. A matter as weighty as this should not be undertaken lightly after watching a video… If we're to put a proposal of this magnitude and severity up before the community I think it should be by someone with a thought-through rationale and proposal, we'd need a proper multi-part OPs weighing pros and cons with a clear plan for the future, etc. If people have been pondering alternatives for if we were forced to move off Fandom, let those people present their plans when they're ready. In the meantime such possibilities are best discussed off-Wiki.
I guess there's no hard policy against letting this thread stand, but I would personally rather it were archived-without-prejudice for now if BastianBalthazarBux is willing to sign off on doing so. As I said, I would be happy to discuss the matter with him on Discord or other such platforms. But it'd be a huge and contentious step and I don't think having a "casual" thread like this is going to help anything. Scrooge MacDuck 16:39, 5 November 2023 (UTC)
With all due respect, I am not in favor of archiving this thread. As the video demonstrates, numerous other wikis have already taken the step to leave Fandom so I do think it is worthy of discussion. BastianBalthazarBux 16:50, 5 November 2023 (UTC)
Yes, of course it's worthy of discussion, but Fandom has rules about how long a discussion weighing such a move can last (up to two weeks) after which a final decision must be taken and the matter can't be brought up again. Because of this, it's in the interest even of a pro-moving faction to not start the countdown in a thread with no plan. You're not the only one to have seen that video (or articulated the same argument). Very, very probably other people are considering the matter, and may be working on actual actionable proposals that could be more fairly discussed in such an official two-weeks thread. Again, if you want to discuss the matter in an unofficial fashion, do it off-Wiki. I am happy to discuss it on Discord — my Discord ID is on my profile. But rushing into an official Forum thread with no plan is both a terrible idea for Fandom if we do stick with it, and a terrible strategic move from people who would want to move. I wasn't aware of the two-week deadline. But the fact that there is such a deadline is one reason to consider leaving Fandom in my opinion. BastianBalthazarBux 16:58, 5 November 2023 (UTC)
That's a valid opinion to which you are entitled, but it isn't an actionable proposal. Locking this for now — and please join me on Discord, there's more things I want to explain to you, both related to this non-threa and in broader terms. It's okay if you don't have an account yet, creating one is free, you can just use it in your browser without downloading any app. Again please understand that this closure isn't meant to block a genuine proposal to move from Fandom if one emerges, I understand where you and other people feeling that way would be coming from, but this thread isn't helping anyone.
