Bagpuss was a British animated television series created by Peter Firmin and Oliver Postgate through their company, Smallfilms. It was aired on BBC2, and ran from 12 February to 7 May 1974. The series also gained several tie-in books, and its popularity led to appearances in other media.
The series principally stars the titular Bagpuss, "the Most Important, The Most Beautiful, The Most Magical Saggy, Old Cloth Cat in the Whole, Wide World", as described in the series' intro, and was set within Bagpuss & Co.. The series also featured several other major characters, such as six mice (Charlie Mouse, Jenny Mouse, Janey Mouse, Lizzy Mouse, Eddie Mouse and Willy Mouse), the rag doll Madeleine, and the wooden woodpecker Professor Yaffle.
Bagpuss was part of the Watch with Mother children's programming cycle, along with several other series which crossed over with the DWU.

The series briefly crossed over with the Doctor Who universe in the 1998 BBC promotional video Future Generations [+]Loading...["Future Generations (TV story)"], which featured a young boy travelling through the settings of several series, including Bagpuss and Doctor Who.
The Bagpuss section of the video featured Postman Pat giving the boy a package to deliver to Bagpuss & Co., with the boy acknowledging that "Bagpuss lives here". After entering, archival footage was used to show Bagpuss yawning, as well as the six mice, before the video moved on to the setting of Festive Road, from Mr Benn.
