Chappaquiddick incident

The Chappaquiddick incident was an infamous instance where Edward Kennedy, whilst at a party on Chappaquiddick island during the annual Edgartown Regatta at Martha's Vineyard, drove off the side of a wooden bridge into the harbour. Teddy survived, but his passenger and secretary, 25-year-old Mary Jo Kopechne drowned. An inquest was held to investigate the matter. This event produced a spike in interest in the assassination of John F. Kennedy which many authors, including James Stevens, tried to cash in on. (PROSE: Who Killed Kennedy)
