At some point, the Doctor stole a TARDIS and ran away, to the unintentional annoyance of an unknown Time Lord whom he went to the Academy with. (AUDIO: Exile)
After the War Lord's trial and erasure, two Time Lords were ready to try the Doctor only for him to escape. The Doctor managed to escape to Earth, even regenerating into a female incarnation to throw off their pursuers before she was captured and returned to Gallifrey. To save face, the Time Lords skipped the trial and proceeded immediately to the sentencing, imprisoning the Doctor in her TARDIS, set to erase her from existence if she tried to escape. Finding a note in her TARDIS that said that the controls were not set so, the Doctor took a gamble and dematerialised from Gallifrey. (AUDIO: Exile)
