Howard was a love interest of Jackie Tyler.
Howard worked at a market, where he met Jackie. (TV: The Christmas Invasion [+]Loading...["The Christmas Invasion (TV story)"]) After the destruction of Henrik's, the department store at which Jackie's daughter Rose had worked, Howard stopped by the Tylers' flat with a bag of Cox's Pippins. The next evening, when Rose managed to phone her mother during the Auton invasion, Jackie wondered about buying Howard a Cynthia Rothrock DVD to make up for knackering his washing machine. Howard later began delivering to Jackie's front door and eventually became involved with her. He began to stay over and left his pyjamas and dressing gown at Jackie's flat.
When the Tenth Doctor became ill after regenerating, Jackie let him wear Howard's pyjamas, which the Doctor later remarked were "very Arthur Dent. When he awoke and put on the dressing gown, the Doctor found an apple in one of the pockets. Jackie explained that Howard sometimes became hungry at night.
