"I'm Gonna Spend My Christmas With A Dalek"
From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference
"I'm Gonna Spend My Christmas With A Dalek" was a narrative pop song sung by The Go-Go's in 1964. It was produced to capitalise on the popularity of the the Daleks at the time; an ostensibly parodical effort, it featured an unusually friendly Dalek spending Christmas with a little girl from Earth; the song was sung from the girl's perspective and featured inserts of spoken dialogue from the Dalek himself.
It was used to illustrate some (then silent) footage from The Daleks' Master Plan on the Daleks: The Early Years video release.
Lyrics[[edit] | [edit source]]
- (Dalek: I bring you gree-tings from all Da-leks)
- I'm gonna spend my Christmas with a Dalek,
- And hug him underneath the mistletoe
- And if he's very nice
- I'll feed him sugar spice
- And hang Christmas stocking from his big lead toe
- And when we both get up on Christmas morning
- I'll kiss him on his chromium-plated head
- And take him in to say hi to Mum
- And frighten daddy out of his bed!
Chorus[[edit] | [edit source]]
- Merry Christmas
- (Dalek: Mer-ry Christ-mas)
- Happy Christmas
- (Dalek: Hap-py Christ-mas)
- Merry Christmas
- (Dalek: Mer-ry Christ-mas)
- To you
Second verse[[edit] | [edit source]]
- (Dalek: I wish to be your friend
- Please may I have some more plum pud-ding and cus-tard?)
- I'm gonna spend my Christmas with a Dalek,
- And if I make him happy he will stay
- He'll go (whoop) and (whirr) and twiddle his eye
- And then my little Dalek will say
Chorus[[edit] | [edit source]]
- Merry Christmas
- (Dalek: Christ-mas Tree)
- Happy Christmas
- (Dalek: Mist-le-toe)
- Merry Christmas
- (Dalek: Mer-ry Christ-mas)
- To you
- Merry Christmas
- (Dalek: I love you!)
- Happy Christmas
- (Dalek: You love me!)
- Merry Christmas
- (Dalek: Mer-ry Christ-mas!)
- To you
- Merry Christmas
- (Dalek: More-plum-pudding!)
- Happy Christmas
- (Dalek: More-cus-tard...)
- (fade out)
Notes[[edit] | [edit source]]
- The Dalek develops a taste for plum pudding and custard, and the girl also plans to feed him some sugar spice. This all stands in contrast to the later datum (established as early as 1965's The Dalek World) that Daleks do not eat conventional food, although the parodical nature of the song's narrative more than excuses this lapse in in-universe consistency.
