The strategic bombing of Germany was carried out during World War II, from 1942, by Bomber Command, controlling the bomber forces of the British Royal Air Force, and the US Air Force. However, bombing from high altitude tended to be inaccurate, and the effectiveness of the bomber forces was generally overestimated. (PROSE: A History of Humankind)
