The Complex were a gestalt of grown neurotic lifeforms built by the Sigmund Freud robots. They were obsessed with inferiority and removing it. Peri Brown got them to fight with each other using their insecurities. They wore headphones which regurgitated motivational quotes. The Sixth Doctor realised that they were created to train the Sigmund Freud robots. Peri gave them a talking to that removed their inferiority complex.
