The Tree of Filth was a mutated tree that grew in the Faction Paradox shrine under Civita after the shrine was rededicated to Sutekh. Its roots cracked into the shrine's remembrance tanks, feeding on the rapid growth biomass and growing to become twenty or thirty feet across. Its bark was pitch black with shapes that resembled human bodies. The tree's highest branches merge into the cavern's ceiling, feeding the plant life above and giving rise to the "bugs of the hours".
