Unteroffizier was a junior rank in the German armed forces during World War II.
On 24 December 1942, one 17-year-old Unteroffizier witnessed the first test of the V1 flying bomb at Peenemünde, alongside Generalmajor Oskar Steinmann. (PROSE: Just War)

Unteroffizier translates from German as "subordinate officer". As a specific rank, it is roughly equivalent to a corporal or a sergeant, but is also used as a general term for non-commissioned officers.
