Tardis Wiki, the Doctor Who Wiki, previously known by several other names, such as Tardis Data Core and TARDIS Index File, and sometimes known simply as "Tardis", is a large, fan-run wiki website dedicated to Doctor Who, hosted on the wiki-hosting website Fandom. Despite primarily being fan-run, various notable contributors to the Doctor Who universe have made contributions to it, along with it being officially recognised by the BBC through in-universe references.

In-universe references

Lady Peinforte

The Tardis Data Core was first referenced in the DWU on 2 May 2019 in The Blogs of Doom short story PROSE: Lady Peinforte, which referred to it as the "TARDIS Wiki", and had Lady Peinforte somehow access the wiki in 1988, describing it as a "place of secrets", from which she learned of many of the Doctor's secrets, seemingly in reference to the impossible amount of knowledge one could gain in-universe if they were to read the pages of the wiki. This source also seemingly claims that the wiki makes determinations of "canon", and that they treat Looms, along with the rest of PROSE: Lungbarrow as non-canonical, which is in stark contrast to the wiki's current policies stating that there is no canon, and that they instead rely on valid sources.

The wiki also made a minor cameo in WC: The Zygon Isolation, a Doctor Who: Lockdown!-original short. In this short, it appeared as a Google Chrome tab labelled "Tardis | Fandom" on Petronella Osgood's computer as she opened BBC iPlayer to watch an episode of Doctor Who.

Real world connections

Due to the sheer size and nature of the Doctor Who universe, various noteworthy individuals to its real world production are also contributors to the wiki, or at the least have acknowledged its existence. As a result of this, the wiki adopted a policy generally prohibiting individuals from editing pages about themselves or their works.

Acknowledgements by DWU contributors

On various occasions, contributors to the Doctor Who universe have acknowledged the site externally, or sometimes internally, either using a Fandom account, or being a signed-out "IP user".

In 2022, Scott Matthewman, the author of PROSE: Tell Me You Love Me stated on Twitter that he considered the wiki "ever so slightly mad", as it had an article about Mr Barnabas, a teddy bear which appeared one time in a Big Finish short story, which he noted had been created "15 years ago", and joked that he was "holding out for that Mr Barnabas cameo in the 60th anniversary specials…". He later commented on the site's talk page for "Mr Barnabas", where he stated that Mr Barnabas wasn't based on any real teddy bear.

On 20 October 2022, James Dreyfus, a voice actor known for portraying the Master, posted on Twitter about the wiki's article on him, stating the page, particularly the section regarding his transphobia, was "inaccurate, devoid of examples, snide and downright dishonest".
