A "whopper" was a term for something unusually large, usually referring to a lie.

On hearing Leela talk, Jack Tyler commented that she didn't "half tell some whoppers," but Leela didn't know the meaning of the term. (TV: Image of the Fendahl)

Peri Brown once told the Sixth Doctor he was telling a whopper when he said it was Rassilon who said "there are few ways in which a Time Lord can be more innocently occupied, than in catching fish" when it was Doctor Johnson who had said it about money, though he initially thought she was referring to a large fish in the water.
