The Abbot's Gateway was located in the ruins of a Cistercian abbey in Foxgrove. It was the location of a weak point on the Web of Time, which was often weaker at religious sites like the Gateway.

After Sarah Jane Smith saved her parents in 1951 the Trickster came through the Abbot's Gateway. The Trickster took over Earth and enslaved the humans.

Rani Chandra travelled back in time and told Sarah Jane what was going to happen. When Eddie and Barbara Smith heard this, they sacrificed themselves and the Trickster couldn't materialise on Earth. He had to go back to Limbo. (TV: The Temptation of Sarah Jane Smith)
