The Americas, also known as America, (AUDIO: The Land of the Dead [+]Loading...["The Land of the Dead (audio story)"]) was a term referring to the Earth continents North and South America, (TV: Lost Library of Ukko) with Central America between them. (TV: "The Sea of Death") The Fifth Doctor identified America and Asia as two of Earth's largest continents. (AUDIO: The Land of the Dead)

The Americas were inhabited by the Native Americans. (TV: The Day of the Clown) The Mayans hailed from the Americas. (TV: Four to Doomsday)

The Americas were located within the Western Hemisphere, to the west of the prime meridian and to the east of the International Date Line. In the Cretaceous, the northern continent of Laurasia, which itself was once part of Pangaea along with Gondwana, began to split into what would become North America and Asia, whilst Gondwana split into South America, Antarctica, Australia and India. The joining of South and North America caused a competition for prey which resulted in the extinction of the Phorusrhacos in 20 million BC.
