An Autonomous Photonic Simulation, or APS, was a type of hologram developed on Esselven.
They were created by lens-covered spheres. They were mobile, using a small force beam to levitate and move. They were connected by data relays to computers, which sent them the information necessary to generate the holograms. Normally insubstantial, they could physically interact using a force field mimicking the movements of the photonic illusion.
A version of The Princess of Aldermar using APS's unintentionally ran uninterrupted on Esselven Minor for five hundred years. (PROSE: Palace of the Red Sun)
