Basil was Brenda's assistant during her time as part of Diodati's circus.
After every show Basil and Joseph Merrick would help stitch Brenda's body parts back together after she had taken herself apart as part of her Discombobulated Woman act. It was eventually revealed that Basil had been stealing from Brenda's trunk which contained several extra body parts and organs for her use.
