Beyond a Boundary: The Incomplete History of Cricket in the British Isles

Beyond a Boundary: The Incomplete History of Cricket in the British Isles, by Robert L. C. James, was one of the books kept on the Dr Smith shelf. Although it seemed to be mundane in nature and content, Giles assured Maxie Masters that all of the items on the shelf were of great importance and power, in some cases because they had been placed there by time travellers so that they would be on hand at a crucial point in the future. (PROSE: Out of the Box)

Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]

In the real world, Beyond a Boundary, one of the most famous books on cricket ever written, does not have a subtitle, and its author was Cyril L. R. James rather than "Robert L. C. James". The subtle differences may be hints that the version of Beyond a Boundary seen in Out of the Box is from an alternate timeline, justifying its place on the Dr Smith shelf. However, it could also simply be one of the discrepancies between real-world history and the history of Earth in the Doctor Who universe.
