Category talk:Doctor Who semi-regular cast

Question[[edit source]]

Sorry, how exactly does the title violate category naming conventions? MystExplorer 03:24, February 24, 2020 (UTC)

I'm still waiting for an answer to my question. MystExplorer 02:07, March 28, 2020 (UTC)

Ok, here you go. Tardis:Category naming conventions says "Above all else, category names must not be open to multiple interpretation, and must be free of any bias or value judgements." What in the heck does "semi-regular" even mean? There's no clear definition, so the average user (who doesn't bother to check the category page for its definition) would have no idea what it means. Well, I added a definition several years ago but apparently that wasn't enough. What if we change it to "Doctor Who recurring cast"? MystExplorer 02:31, March 28, 2020 (UTC)

In all the years we've had this category, we haven't really seen any problems arising. Recurring might perhaps be clearer: to be recurring in a series, an actor would have to have multiple (definitionally 3 or more) appearances. The current nomenclature, however, does do a better job of holding back confusion where it comes to the regular vs. recurring distinction. With semi-regular, editors can always be sure which is which.

It's been over a year so I think we need to settle the issue of whether this category needs to be renamed. MystExplorer 02:12, 21 April 2021 (UTC)

Closing[[edit source]]

Adding a closing post, but not acting on the delete, just in case anyone has any good reasons for this category not to be deleted. Shambala108's citation of the Tardis:Category naming conventions remains correct, with "semi-regular cast" poorly defined. Although the qualifier of "as the same character for at least 3 stories" has been on the category since 2012, I'm curious as to why that is number. --Tangerineduel / talk 01:22, 15 August 2024 (UTC)
