Chalmers was a UNIT soldier who served under Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart during the 1970s.

Chalmers was part of the UNIT convoy sent to Devil's End and was stationed to guard the dig at the Devil's Hump.
He later reported to Captain Yates by radio when the dig exploded, the result of Azal's spaceship self-destructing, before mentioning that the heat barrier around the village had disappeared. (TV: The Dæmons)
