Charlie was operating the radio on the Monitor. When the ship was attacked by Carpanthans, he briefly called for help in a broadcast to all ships. Once he had been put in a deep sleep, the broadcasts seemingly returned to normal. The Doctor said the whole crew would recover after treatment. (COMIC: The Fishmen of Carpantha)
