Clan McLaren
The Clan McLaren (PROSE: The Highlanders), alternatively spelled as Clan MacLaren (PROSE: The Evil of the Daleks [+]Loading...["The Evil of the Daleks (BBC Books novelisation)"]), was a Scottish Highland clan. (TV: The Highlanders)

In the 1740s the clan was led by Laird Colin McLaren. His children Alexander and Kirsty were also members of the clan. In addition, the laird's piper was Jamie McCrimmon, son of Donald McCrimmon, who had also been a piper, (TV: The Highlanders) though they were both themselves part of Clan McCrimmon. In 1746, the McLaren clan participated in the Battle of Culloden. During the battle, Laird Colin McLaren saved the life of Bonnie Prince Charlie, who entrusted him with his standard and gave him his ring as in thanks. However, the battle was disastrous for the clan, with many lying dead in the fields and the apparent sole survivors being the Laird McLaren, his children and Jamie McCrimmon. They were then accosted by British soldiers and taken prisoner, with Alexander shot and Kirsty escaping. The Laird and Jamie were then taken taken prisoner at Inverness, narrowly avoiding execution. In Inverness, they were to be sold along with other captured Highlanders into indentured servitude in Barbados, but with the help of the Second Doctor, they were able to commandeer the Annabelle and sail for France. Jamie McCrimmon, however, stayed behind and became a companion of the Doctor. (TV: The Highlanders)
