Codex Gigas

From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference

The Codex Gigas was a book capable of summoning the Yssgaroth. It was written in the 13th century during the height of the Czech Republic. A monk was told by the monastery to transcribe the entirety of the Holy Bible, as well as several other historical texts, in one night. Unable to manage this, he called upon the Prince of Darkness and made a Faustian pact and sold his soul to complete the manuscript in time. There was a catch, however. The Devil, trickster that he was, had a portrait painted of the Devil, included in the book. The man died three days later and descended into Hell. The book then became known as the Devil's Bible.
