Dave was Jess Collins' boyfriend. In 1972, while looking for the "Highgate Vampire" in Highgate Cemetery, he was killed when a Corvid drained his psychic essence. (COMIC: The Highgate Horror)

Jess and the Twelfth Doctor both remembered Dave's death six months afterwards. The Doctor apologised for this because of the way death seemed to have a habit of following him around. (COMIC: The Pestilent Heart)
