- The director of E.T., Steven Spielberg, once held the theatrical film rights to Doctor Who when he was allied to Universal Studios. The result of this holding was ultimately the Paul McGann telemovie.
- In TV: Prisoner of the Judoon, an allusion is made to the line from the film, "E.T. phone home," when Clyde Langer tries to assure Julie that Androvax "just wants your mum to help him phone home" after he was falsely told Androvax was controlling Julie's mum's body.
