Edmund was a librarian at the Bodleian library in Oxford.
One day, Edmund was found by the Third Doctor and Jo Grant. He told them he had been in the library stacks, and that he had lost track of time. The Doctor realised he was suffering from dehydration and temporal shock. They brought him to his office and asked the junior librarian to call an ambulance for him. (PROSE: Losing Track of Time)
