Ellie was part of a group that found the War Master in the Forest of Penitence. She found a cleared route through the forest towards a working campsite. She was covered in the night by the roots of a tree. She started to resent Dalfin for acting motherly towards her. Blythe told her not to feel guilty for causing a man to get ill out of curiosity and the fact that they were on the run. When the Master told her to feel guilty, she became a tree.
