The extraction protocols were protocols written by Vienna Salvatori instructing her ship to only pick her up when she had transmitted proof of the completion of her assignment to the Hyperspatial Data Network. This made escaping from life-threatening situations extremely difficult. Noting this, Vienna decided that she would rewrite these protocols. (AUDIO: Dead Drop)
