The Untempered Schism on Gallifrey was said by the Tenth Doctor to be a "gap" in the fabric of reality through which the whole of the Time Vortex could be seen. Time Lord novices such as the Doctor and the Master were made to look into the Untempered Schism as an act of initiation. The Tenth Doctor identified the wormholes created by the Stingrays, such as that which connected San Helios to Earth, as a hole in the fabric of reality.
