First Gardener

The First Gardener was a Gardener who created the Galactic Seed Vault. Her Latin name was Malus pumila.
She was aided by Time Lords in the creation of the vault. However, she attempted to hide both their and her own involvement so as to keep the origins of the vault a mystery. These attempts were largely successful as the Thirteenth Doctor did not know how the vault was created until Willow relayed the story to her. Another Gardener in on the secret was a renegade called Nightshade. (PROSE: The Secret in Vault 13)

Malus pumila is the Latin designation for apple. Indeed, right before learning of the creator of the vault, the Thirteenth Doctor eats an apple and pockets a bunch more. Moreover, the ultimate secret kept in Vault 13 looks like an apple seed. However, the explicit connection between apples and the First Gardener is not made.
