Flashback (narrative)

A flashback is an interjected scene that takes the narrative back in time from the current point in the story. It may be a specially filmed scene, or consist of archive footage from earlier stories.
As revealed in The Writer's Tale, Russell T Davies considered including a flashback to Davros's accident in Journey's End, which would have marked its depiction in live-action.
