I've been looking around Wookipedia lately, and saw that they have a page called Request for Protection. To my understand, this is a page that allows Users to request for a page to either be semi-protected, fully-protected or if they want the protection to be removed. I not sure how well this work for them, but would it be a good idea to give it a go? I feel it may stop some edit wars, mindless vandalism and vandalism aimed to annoy Users. All Users would need to do is insert the date as a heading; (if it's not already been added) and add a bulletpoint, along with the page they want the protection level changed on and why. Would this work on this wiki, even as a trail, or is there not much point? Mini-mitch 21:35, January 24, 2010 (UTC)

I imagine if we had a "Requests for unprotection" all the Series 6 pages that are currently create-protected would soon fill that space. Plus likely most of the semi-protected story pages.
Our protection policy already covers the ability to protect anything relating to newly released stories, other connected policies (vandalism and editing) also cover elements of protection.
I think we'd need to put in so many limiting clauses into a "Request for Protection/Unprotection" it'd make it somewhat unwieldy.
A page is usually only targeted by one user attempting vandalism or whatever, the idea I try to pursue is to educate the user, or if they're a vandal block them. By protecting the page we're limiting the a large amount of editors who can edit the page. Our protection, editing and vandalism policies already provide situations when we do need to protect pages to ensure the most useful content is added. --Tangerineduel / talk 15:51, January 25, 2011 (UTC)
