Forum:A Spoiler tag

Most forums nowadays have a spoiler tag, which allows a User to tell a spoiler and people who see this tag can press a "show" which will reveal the spoiler and a "hide" button which will hide the spoiler again. Could we get/make/install on of these for the Howling? It would allow Users to place spoilers in the Howling and Users could still read it without the fear of something being ruined. - Why? The Howling explicitly allows spoilers.

- I have, too. But the truth is that such users have absolutely no right to be annoyed. The Howling, quite explicitly, is a place of spoilers and speculation. They're warned on the main page that it's a place where they're going to potentially get spoiled. So if you don't want to be spoiled, don't go to the Howling. It's pretty simple. It is an almost completely unmoderated forum. We don't really have the facility to moderate it, cause it's a very basic posting system. We'd have to edit entire threads to find the one little bit we think of as spoilery. It's not like a proper forum where you can just delete a post, or wrap a spoiler tag around it.

- Even if we improved the forum software — and I think there actually is an extension which allows for spoiler tags — the problem won't be solved. You still need a moderator willing to ensure people are actually using the spoiler tag system. And who amongst us is actually willing to be the moderator of the Howling? In order to police it for spoilers, the admin who moderated it would have to be willing to be spoiled. I wouldn't touch that job with a ten foot pole. Would you? Is making sure the Howling is properly spoiler-tagged important enough that you're willing to sacrifice being surprised by your favorite show?
- Long story short: the forum software may well improve. But at the end of the day, spoilers will happen in The Howling. The best we can do, as far as I can see, is to make sure people know there are spoilers there, and then let them decide whether they wish to proceed.

- I have to agree on all counts, it's the reason I don't go near The Howling.
- If you're going into The Howling then it's a place for rampant speculation and other stuff like that, it's part of the reason it was created.
- The forums are basic, they're basically just like any other page of the wiki a little bit of code on the main forum pages lets them display in a list, but they don't run like message boards. They're basically just Talk pages without the main article page. --Tangerineduel / talk 17:17, May 15, 2011 (UTC)
- I'm inclined to agree with czechout and Tangerineduel. The Howling is designated spoiler country, and must remain so in order for people who are avoiding spoilers to make full use of the rest of the forums and contribute to the wiki. Rob T Firefly 22:45, May 17, 2011 (UTC)
