Forum:Are Pre-Time War Daleks and Time Lords time locked as well?
It has been made clear in the New Series that the Time War is time-locked. So the Doctor can't go back to Gallifrey. But, since he encountered his pre-Time War self in Steven Moffat's Time Crash, could he meet up with other Time Lords who haven't experienced the Time War yet?
Fuguritively speaking, if the Tenth Doctor went back to see the Fourth Doctor, could he hitch a ride on the Fourth Doctor's TARDIS to visit a pre-Time War Gallifrey?
Likewise, could a New Series Doctor meet up with the Classic Series Daleks?
Isn't there a plot device that prevents either scenario above from happening?
It appears pre-Time War Daleks are appearing in so-called "series 5" Doctor Who. They're updated versions of the classic Daleks. Delton Menace 07:25, January 22, 2010 (UTC)
No one knows. It would make sense, to preserve causality leading up to the Time War. The origin of the Daleks appearing in Series 5 is as yet mysterious. One report says that one of Churchill's scientists thinks he himself invented them, which raises the question of where the inspiration comes from. And, of course, the Doctor meets pre-Time War Daleks in PROSE: Prisoner of the Daleks, which he says is due to a glitch in the TARDIS. -- Noneofyourbusiness 16:22, January 22, 2010 (UTC)
Time Crash is a predestination paradox, as the Tenth Doctor only knows what to do from previously watching himself do it. The Fires of Pompeii is also a predestination paradox, as is the theory in Terminus of the ship going back in time and causing the big bang. They've happened before in the series, so the Doctor meeting pre-Time War Daleks could be another predestination paradox, if that encounter had already happened from the Daleks' perspective during and after the Time War. If it wasn't a predestination paradox it could mess up the timeline and potentially create a grandfather paradox. It should be noted that if the Doctor knew the events were a predestination paradox he could prevent that paradox from being created, but that would create a grandfather paradox. Then again, Doctor Who has never cared for grandfather paradoxes. Let the writers and producers worry about that. TemporalSpleen 17:59, February 3, 2010 (UTC)
