At K9 Mark I#Behind the scenes we assert that Bob Baker said that th initial K9 we see in TV is "identical to the one Leela had on Gallifrey". That's not quite the same as saying it is the one Leela had on Gallifrey. Can anyone source that quote? I'd love to see it in context. Because if he only says it's like the one that Leela had, it would really help us rewrite the page with greater clarity.

As it stands, we're trying to do this difficult balancing act of saying that K9 Mark I was utterly destroyed in AUDIO: Imperiatrix, but yet he later went on to have the same form in 2050 London just prior to another explosion that ended with him reforming as K9 Mark 2.

Obviously that makes no sense, so if Baker really did say that the initial K9 is only "like" the one Leela had, we can say that K9 Mark I definitively was destroyed, and that there's another K9 called "K9 Mark 1" who preceded K9 Mark 2. Which would make more sense, as the bootscreen image prior to the act of "regeneration" uses the arabic, not Roman, numeral.

Well, this isn't a direct quote from Baker, but there's an article by Jonathan Blum in DWM 409 which says:
Baker and Tams have confirmed that the K9 who features in this series is K9 Mark I, who was built by Professor Marius and first seen in 1977's The Invisible Enemy. He then travelled with the Fourth Doctor for a while, and was last seen staying on Gallifrey with Leela at the end of 1978's The Invasion of Time.
The intent seems clear. We may have to rely on the old "according to one account" line. —Josiah Rowe talk to me 15:27, May 11, 2012 (UTC)
Update: I found the original quote, in which Baker is actually talking about the prop used in filming. A fan asks whether it's the same prop as was used on Doctor Who, and Baker says:
"We have built a copy of old K9 for the opening scenes, identical to the one Leela had in Galifrey.[sic]"
But in another post on his forum, Baker says:
"Yes this is the K9 that the Doctor left with Leela on Gallifrey. In this version he was plucked out of space and time by the STM totally at random. His self-destruct in Ep 1 to save the humans results in triggering a "regeneration unit" put there presumably by the Time Lords, but of course we're not allowed to mention that."
So that's that. —Josiah Rowe talk to me 15:48, May 11, 2012 (UTC)
