Forum:Categories always blue-links, even if uncreated

From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference
IndexTech notes → Categories always blue-links, even if uncreated
Spoilers are strongly policed here.
If this thread's title doesn't specify it's spoilery, don't bring any up.

You may have noticed over the past few days that new (that is to say, un-created) categories appear as blue links, not red ones.

If you start a new category (say, the nonsense category of category:oiojdsfdieww it will show up as a blue-link. See? Here's another one: category:sdlkjcxlj;k32023908dfj;xj,.zmpfsdf09i.

I'd like to assure you that this is a Wikia change, not a Tardis one. We are looking into ways of reverting this, but for the moment, understand that the official word from Uberfuzzy at wikia is: "It is not a bug."

I implore you to register your protests with Special:Contact. It's plainly stupid for un-created categories to register as blue-links, so please take the time to protest this decision today. In the meantime, I will be looking for a CSS workaround, but I can't guarantee I'll find one. The best approach is to make sure that Wikia hears from as many people as possible about this, frankly, boneheaded change.

There has been a minor, but important Wikia reversal on this issue. If you make an inline link to a non-existent category, it will once again be a redlink. So,
[[:category:Hi there]]
will produce category Hi there, in glorious red. However, if you were to do a normal category call like
[[category:Hi there]]
it's still a false blue link. You are therefore encouraged to keep double-checking spelling, capitalisation and punctuation used in category names, because you won't get a helpful redlink to tell you when you've got the name wrong.

It must now be considered a best practise to actually go to an unfamiliar category page before adding that category to an aarticle. That way, you can then cut the category name from the source and paste it into your article. That's really the only way to be sure that you're getting the category name right.
