I've brought this topic up before, but never really got a good resolution to it (see Forum:Doctor Who Novelisations - canon or not? for a previous archived discussion.

Currently the Novelisations are covered in the Tardis:Canon policy under secondary sources and states:

These sources are valid sources, however should not be the only source for an article.

• Novelisations of broadcast television stories by Target Books and other publishers may be used, however any information that contradicts that novelisation's TV story's information is to be considered apocryphal and should not be included within the main body of the article. It should instead be included in the 'Behind the scenes' section of said article.

I'm proposing removing this section entirely and simply state that

Information presented in novelisations that isn't present in their TV story counterpart should be presented in the 'Behind the scenes' section of the article.

I would also note that "All Target Books novels not based on a broadcast television story (i.e., The Nightmare Fair, Turlough and the Earthlink Dilemma)" would remain in the policy, this is just about cutting out the TV novelisations' info from the main in-universe space. --Tangerineduel / talk 14:23, October 10, 2011 (UTC)

When taken in concert with various other discussions on the site, however, it's pretty clear there's support for Tangerineduel's proposal. Maybe this thing got no great discussion because people felt it had, in fact, already been resolved.
