Forum:Shalka Doctor in Cabinet of Light
I know it hasn't been confirmed by Telos or the author but the Doctor from the Cabinet of Light looks identical to the Shalka Doctor, he has the same looks, clothes and habits. I was wondering if i could change the Shalka Doctor's article to reflect this or do we need official confirmation to justify putting it on? Revanvolatrelundar 18:17, October 15, 2010 (UTC)
- I wouldn't put it in the body of the article saying it is definitely him. I'd put it in the notes of the Cabinet of Light article, and then in the behind the scenes section on the Doctor page. --The Thirteenth Doctor 18:21, October 15, 2010 (UTC)
- This Doctor even references recent events that are also mentioned in Scream of the Shalka such as the mysterious event in his past that haunts him. Revanvolatrelundar 18:51, October 15, 2010 (UTC)

- As The Thirteenth Doctor says put it in the notes and the behind the scenes page.
- You need something solid to connect them, clothing, habits and a mysterious event are somewhat vague, is there one thing or something that can be pointed to and says that's him?
- With some things like this you do need to read between the lines a bit, but there also needs to be a bit of evidence to prove that it's that Doctor or not. --Tangerineduel 11:57, October 16, 2010 (UTC)
- I will list everything in the book about this Doctor which could connect him to Shalka Doctor:
- Black coat with green collar, white shirt, loose collar on the coat exposing his neck, pronounced throat.
- Lost a companion that made him reluctant to gain new ones.
- Smokes to improve his singing voice (in shalka he notes he works on his singing voice and fights the Shalka with it)
- Same behavioural characteristics, impatient, could get angry but showed compassion to those around him.
- clean shaven on only his chin and lip (Doctor had sideburns in Shalka), brown hair which is receding
- he has "a body with cravings" which links to the inhaler he carries in Shalka
- he was shot in the back in the story which made him regenerate into this incarnation therefore ruling out any "official doctors"
- large hands, his hands are a bit on the large side in Shalka too.
- gangly but not too tall.

It also says that the Doctor has sad, sunken eyes, which is part of the description of this Doctor in the Tomorrow Windows. Revanvolatrelundar 17:37, October 16, 2010 (UTC)
A picture depicting the Shalka Doctor from Feast of the Stone (http://www.drwhoguide.com/bbc/feastofstone.jpg) shows him with sideburns, sunken eyes and a receding hairline. Revanvolatrelundar 17:47, October 16, 2010 (UTC)
And finally, i think i have it. Honore is a time sensitive and can see the future and takes a look at the Doctor's:
- A girl who is yet to be born (Alison Cheney)
- An alien birdsong (the Shalka's screams)

- The Feast of the Stone explicitly featured the Shalka Doctor and his companions, Cabinet of Light was not definitive on the matter. Rob T Firefly 21:17, October 16, 2010 (UTC)
- Thats the whole point of this topic, im trying to find something of which to pin down this incarnation of the Doctor. Revanvolatrelundar 08:21, October 17, 2010 (UTC)
- Unfortunately I don't think you'll find such a thing, the one source we've got is The Cabinet of Light and that source is unclear. Even if you got hold of Daniel O'Mahony and persuaded him to declare the answer publicly, that'd still be limited to the "behind the scenes" section since only the prose can be taken as canon. - The outfit is the only link that really suggests that it's the Shalka Doctor. (That said the Eighth in the EDAs often sported a green coat, white shirt during the stuck on Earth years and those that followed).
- Cabinet of Light is something of an odd novella as it's mostly second hand descriptions of the Doctor.
- Are there any other sources out on the web that suggest this link between the Doctors (analysis or even review type sites)? I've been looking and there aren't many that make a definite statement, Doctor Who Episode Guide / Timeline Miscellaneous Stories calls the Cabinet of Light Doctor an "undisclosed incarnation of the Doctor" whilst the Shalka Doctor is an "alternate Doctor", the Whoniverse - Future Doctor Timeline lists them and others separately and only connects the "Merlin Doctor".
- Millennium Effect Doctor #9a guide does specifically state that:
Publicized as being a future Doctor, fans noticed some startling similarities in the descriptions of this incarnation and that of Richard E Grant. Whilst author Daniel O'Mahoney had worked without any knowledge of 'Scream of the Shalka', and this is therefore a coincidence,
- This isn't enough to make a definitive ruling I don't think. --Tangerineduel 14:52, October 17, 2010 (UTC)
