Fred the Eternal Snail was an ordinary snail that was given the V Factor by Joanna Harris. She and her team kept the snail as a mascot, but he was squashed when Slake trod on him - he didn't die though, but he was badly mangled, so Joanna had to stake the snail with a toothpick.
