Galavaunt was the leader of the Hyreth. The Fourth Doctor and Sarah Jane Smith, with assistance from Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, defeated him during the 1970s when he invaded Earth. Nearly 40 years later, he employed the Monk to reclaim the Magna Gral from the Black Archive to revive his people from suspended animation. He turned himself in to UNIT after his people instead died of natural causes. (AUDIO: Past Lives)
