- Gene Hunt was portrayed by Philip Glenister in the television series Life on Mars (2006-07), featuring John Simm as the leading character Sam Tyler; and its sequel series Ashes to Ashes (2008-10), featuring Keeley Hawes as the leading character Alex Drake. In the short-lived American adaptation of Life on Mars (2008-09), Gene Hunt was played by Harvey Keitel.
- Glenister's brother Robert Glenister has had multiple roles in the Whoniverse, including Salateen in The Caves of Androzani and Thomas Edison in Nikola Tesla's Night of Terror.
