A generation was a group of people born around the same time, and thus living in roughly the same stage of life in the same time period. It could also refer to technology produced in a specific time period.

The Krillitanes incorporated physical characteristics from the species they conquered into their new generations. Following the invasion of Bessan, which occurred prior to 1140, newer generations of Krillitanes sported bat-like wings taken from the Bessan people. The Esteemed Father, who was recognised as the "Beast of Bessan", was of the older, wingless generation which co-existed with the new Krillitanes. By 2007, Brother Lassar told the Tenth Doctor that the Krillitanes had held the "bat form" for ten generations. (PROSE: The Krillitane Storm, TV: School Reunion)

The Tenth Doctor termed the combatants in World War I as the "lost generation", since the lives of so many young men were cut short. As a result, the Weeping Angels feeding at this time were not satisfied by their potential energy. (COMIC: The Weeping Angels of Mons)

According to Rhys Williams, Kaitlin Russell belonged to a generation of millennials, who placed an emphasis on the Earth's environment. (AUDIO: Sargasso)
