An early example of greeking: Cadbury's Dairy Milk Chocolate was represented with the fictitious brand "Camfield's Fairy Milk Chocolate" in the tele-snaps recon of The Web of Fear.
On many occasions within DWU fiction, real world copyrighted/trademarked elements have been subjected to "greeking"; "greeking", also known as "product displacement", is a television industry term for the process of undesired logos and brands being redacted or replaced with fictitious stand-ins.[1][2]
A famous example, present in non-DWU media, is the fictional cigarette brand "Morley", appearing in films and television series from Psycho to The Twilight Zone, a stand-in for Marlboro.[3]

- In the tele-snaps reconstruction of episode three The Web of Fear [+]Loading...["The Web of Fear (TV story)"], "Camfield's Fairy Milk Chocolate" appears in lieu of Cadbury's Dairy Milk Chocolate. As the original broadcast episode is missing, it is currently unknown what prop was used initially.
- In Planet of the Dead [+]Loading...["Planet of the Dead (TV story)"] and Mona Lisa's Revenge [+]Loading...["Mona Lisa's Revenge (TV story)"], a London-based gallery named the International Gallery appears in place of the National Gallery, which would appear in The Day of the Doctor [+]Loading...["The Day of the Doctor (TV story)"].
- Similarly, The Big Bang [+]Loading...["The Big Bang (TV story)"] featured the National Museum instead of the National Gallery.

- In the short story Rory's Stag, Twitbook appears in place of both Facebook and Twitter, the name being a parodical portmanteau of the two real social media platforms.
- In the short story Low/Profile, Wackopedia appears instead of Wikipedia. Notably, the entire story is formatted to read as a fictional wiki page.
- In the short story Copy/Paste, Whoosh! appears in place of Zoom, a digital video call service.

- In the serialised backup comic A Rose by Any Other Name, Blue-ray appears instead of Blu-ray, a type of optical disc.
- In Timeliney Wimey, Bookface appears instead of Facebook.
