Helais was a Peladonian rebel who became chancellor.

Biography[[edit] | [edit source]]

Early life[[edit] | [edit source]]

Helais was a descendant of Hepesh. She lived in Megeshra Province with her grandmother and worked in the mines, watching the people of the village die around her of, she would later learn, trisilicate poisoning. She heard stories of the Doctor and knew of Queen Erimem and her golden age. (AUDIO: The Death of Peladon)

Rebellion[[edit] | [edit source]]

Angry with the royal family for paying no notice to the suffering of the people of her village, Helais acquired weapons from Princess Isabelda and planned to lead the people in a rebellion against Queen Minaris. She gathered the villagers together and rallied them against Minaris before a cave-in occurred, after which she saved the Sixth Doctor and had people secure the mine to make it safe.

The Doctor identified the illness as trisilicate poisoning and suggested that he and Helais petition the Queen. She presented Hepesh's seal when Minaris visited but was ultimately ignored, prompting her to march on the Citadel of Peladon with her armed neighbours despite the Doctor's protestations. Upon reaching the throne room, she held the Queen at gunpoint but changed her mind about killing her, going after Isabelda with the Doctor when she took Minaris hostage.

Helais shot and killed Isabelda before she could kill Minaris. She attended Isabelda's funeral and was offered the post of chancellor, which she agreed to think about. (AUDIO: The Death of Peladon)

Later life[[edit] | [edit source]]

Helais accepted Queen Minaris' offer and became chancellor. Following the Queen's death, Helais seized power. (AUDIO: The Truth of Peladon)

Legacy[[edit] | [edit source]]

The Eighth Doctor told Arla Decanto that Helais would be turning in her grave if she knew what Barok had done during his time as chancellor. (AUDIO: The Truth of Peladon)
