Houston Street
Houston Street was a street in Dallas, Texas. It was part of the route that President John F. Kennedy's motorcade followed in the moments leading up to his assassination on 22 November 1963.
The motorcade turned right into Houston Street from Main Street and went past the Dallas County Criminal Courts Building. From the sixth floor of the Texas School Book Depository, James Stevens observed that two flags with the presidential seal attached to the lead vehicle fluttered as it turned onto Houston Street. Once into Houston, the motorcade braked to perform a difficult left-hand turn into Elm Street which dramatically extended the length of time necessary for the journey down the gently curving Elm Street towards the underpass, making Kennedy a much easier target for the assassin's bullets.
