Howling:Amy's two pasts

In one of the mini-episodes included in the Complete Series 6 Box Set (I think it's Good Night?), it's shown that both versions of Amy's past - the one where she grew up without parents and first met the Doctor when she was a child, and the one where she always had parents and didn't meet the Doctor as a child - are both simultaneously "real." They both happened, even though they contradict one another. This would normally imply parallel universes, but we're dealing with a single universe here, so how can this be? 82.2.136.93talk to me 18:34, April 17, 2012 (UTC)
It's more like alternate timelines in this case than parallel universes, although the fact that the universe was rebooted does complicate things a bit. Anyway, I think Amy just remembered both versions of her past, but the version where she had parents is now the only one that actually hapenned. Icecreamdif talk to me 19:18, April 17, 2012 (UTC)
The adventures she had in Series 5, when she didn't have parents, did still happen though, because her daughter turns up at the end of The Wedding of River Song having just escaped from the Byzantium. River even mentions meeting Amy there. So it did all still happen, though quite how escapes me. 194.168.208.42talk to me 09:45, April 18, 2012 (UTC)
There really is no good explanation apart from "wibbly wobbly timey wimey." It's easily possible that the events of season 5 did still happen, but Amy now went to the Byzantium and had parents on Earth. It's not like the events of season 5 couldn't have happenned if Amy had parents. Not to mention that River is the type of person who probably would remember things that never happenned anyway. In Flesh and Stone she mentioned the pandorica, even though the events of The Big Bang certainly never hapenned now.Icecreamdif talk to me 19:28, April 18, 2012 (UTC)
I think we can forget about about trying to apply logic and rationality to Doctor Who now, after the last two series. 194.168.208.42talk to me 12:45, April 24, 2012 (UTC)
The show still has a certain logic to it, it's just a really complicated and convoluted logic.Icecreamdif talk to me 13:57, April 24, 2012 (UTC)
It is complicated and convoluted but it can still be followed -- not easily, maybe, but it can be followed. --89.242.69.1talk to me 23:28, April 24, 2012 (UTC)
Exactly. The show would hardly be worth watching if it was impossible to follow.Icecreamdif talk to me 00:17, April 25, 2012 (UTC)
