In TPO, while the Doctor was relaying the Pandorica myth to Amy, she asked how they got the most powerful warrior of all time inside the box and the Doctor replied "A good wizard tricked him". Now that we know that the 'most powerful warrior' is, it seems less likely that River's prediction that the good wizards in those stories always turn out to him him will hold true in this case. Whilst not ruling out the "finale Doctor" going back planting things that lead him to this point, I thought there was room for a discussion on who this character might be, and if they have anything to do with the "silence will fall" voice and the (presumably same) entity flying the Tardis.
To start I think it would be best to trace the way that the Doctor ended up at the Pandorica:

  • Pre-Moffat: Did River mention it in Silence in the Library?
  • TEH: Prisoner Zero tells the Doctor that the Pandorica will open and silence will fall.
  • FaS: River tells the Doctor the next time they meet will be at the opening of the Pandorica. She knows what's going on, it having already happened in her timeline, so she knows that it is empty and waiting for him to be imprisoned. Is she actually evil and in cahoots with the Alliance? [Note that barring something very timey-wimey, this cannot be the crime for which she is seeking a pardon as she was already in the Stormcage at the start of TPO.] Or drawing further on the Pandora's box myth, is she setting things up to put him in there for his own safety from the explosion that breaks time to represent the hope that was left in the box after all the nasty things were let out.
  • TPO: Stonehenge is being used as a massive transmitter, summoning the alliance to where the Pandorica is opening. It is through this transmission that the Doctor gets his message - via Vincent's painting, Churchill and River. THIS River *doesn't* know what is going to transpire unless she is in on the plan.

(There is however a potential slight problem with the Vincent link, in that the point of the pandorica is to prevent the tardis exploding, so why is it still doing so in the painting? Of course, it could just be that this was what the alliance needed painted to attract the Doctor's attention).
That would seem to give us the following concrete options for a "Good Wizard":

  • Prisoner Zero
  • River Song
  • Vincent Van Gogh (a bit far fetched, I know)
  • The "finale Doctor"

Of these I prefer the someone else theory, and that said someone else is the silence will fall voice that is flying the tardis. But that's just because I think it would make a better story.

Anyone else have any thoughts? Think I'm barking up a red herring throwaway line that was only there so River could make her always turn out to be him line? Any other suggestions for a 'good' wizard, given that the pandorica myth was most likely propagated by the alliance and there is a certain transvaluation of morals going on. (Bring on the suggestions of the Master, Rassilon, Omega, The Rani and any other time lord you can name! ) Faeryty 10:51, June 23, 2010 (UTC)

You could annd Amilia Pond (if she is not what she seemed to be) but I'd have to go with future Doc as the manipulator. You already kneo that I feel that it's a good thing that he went in when he did. Jack Chilli 15:08, June 23, 2010 (UTC)

I thought it was the Alliance. - I. Am. Excalibur-117-(talkcontribs) 15:22, June 23, 2010 (UTC)

Technically, you could say it is the alliance, and it may end up being nothing more than the alliance, but I think this page is about a possible master-mind behind the alliance... and then possibly behind the cracks, tardis and silence....possibly....--87.113.180.77 18:36, June 23, 2010 (UTC)

It's going to be the Doctor. And then we'll learn that everyone in the Whoniverse is the Doctor.24.156.159.198 00:49, June 25, 2010 (UTC)

River says "I hate good wizards, they always turn out to be Him". I guess there is a clue there. 187.112.10.227 11:15, June 25, 2010 (UTC)

I think it will be Merlin (i.e. future Doctor). 187.112.10.227 11:17, June 25, 2010 (UTC)

Well, in the end it turned out to be the .. err .. you know. Err Moffat maybe? Jack Chilli 18:57, June 27, 2010 (UTC)

Maybe he's the warrior AND the good wizard. His own brain tricked him into trusting what was around him despite knowing that something was 'up'...86.173.66.5 01:40, June 28, 2010 (UTC)
