If I Had a TARDIS... was a short narrative road safety awareness advertisement exclusively published in Doctor Who Adventures #115 on 14 May 2009 by BBC Magazines in conjunction with THINK!. It made licensed use of the Doctor's TARDIS, serving as a device for the characters to want to go back in time and prevent their accidents.

Plot[[edit] | [edit source]]

Two children, due to their negligence, were both heavily injured in car accidents.

The first boy wished he had the Doctor's TARDIS so he could go back in time and prevent his accident — he can no longer play football with his friends as his left leg is broken in multiple places. It's his own fault; he didn't stop, look and listen, so a car "smashed" into him.

The second boy would go back in time to tell himself to find a safer place to cross the road than the bend where he did. He hadn't been bothered to find a place with better visibility so he was "flattened". Due to his messy broken arm, he can't swim, get dressed by himself or go go-karting.

Worldbuilding[[edit] | [edit source]]

  • Over twenty child pedestrians per week are either killed or seriously injured on the roads of Great Britain.
  • It is important to pay attention when crossing a road. If you don't stop, look and listen somewhere with visibility of the road when stepping off the kerb a person can be harmed.
  • There are five rules for crossing a road.
  1. "Find the safest place to cross."
  2. "Stop before you get to the kerb."
  3. "Look all around and listen."
  4. "If traffic is coming, let it pass."
  5. "When it is safe, go straight across the road — do not run."

Notes[[edit] | [edit source]]

  • The children in this advertisement weren't original creations; they were continually used in the safety campaign that pre-dated this story, Tales of the Road.
